About Debby

“I was born in swampy New Orleans in 1952.  As a child I found my playground away from adult eyes, with a move to the Baton Rouge woods.  Here was solitude, surprises, and animal companionship. Fast forward to adulthood and life in New Haven, CT, I became a sidewalk walker, not a stroller, but a woman who loves to daydream without purpose and walk briskly with purpose. Finally, in retirement years, I put the two things together that were in my bones; walking and the woods equaled hiking! And I lucked out to have a devoted, 4 seasons hiking buddy, in my dear Clara Tolbert.” Debby is a retired Adjunct Professor at Smith College School for Social Work.

About West Rock Ridge State Park

Rising up to 627 feet above mean sea level, West Rock Ridge is one of the most prominent features of the New Haven region. West Rock affords the visitor a spectacular view; it is estimated that one can see approximately 200 square miles from various locations on the ridge with excellent views of New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound.

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt." John Muir
